Our tech team is hard at work building the set for our show; this week they built 8 picture frames. These picture frames will hang from the grid and all the characters and couples will be able to pose and sing from behind them. The idea of creating a wall of picture frames that the cast could interact with was inspired from a line in the opening number: "All those pictures up on the wall...from all those good and crazy people my friends."

Today our tech team built the bar for the set! We made it out 1/2" plywood and 1 x 3 pine wood. We placed it on wheels so we can move it on set. (fun fact: The bar will be used as bed headboard in a later scene!)
-Stephanie Coronado, Assistant Technical Director Time to put this production together!
For our first rehearsal, we got the whole cast and crew together to meet each other and read through the whole show, and begin learning the complex music for the opening number. From now until the show opens, the cast will have 3-4 hour rehearsals 5-6 days a week to learn music, block various scenes, and run through the show. When the cast finished their rehearsal, the production team (proteam) stormed the theater to have their first meeting. The proteam includes students in charge of building the set, creating the costumes and props, designing the light cues and sound effects, and publicizing the show. We try to get each department an assistant as a way of teaching new people about various tech positions and the Barnstormers workflow. These weekly meetings serve to update all departments on where they stand in the process and ask the director any questions. Check back to hear updates on the production and to read posts from our cast and crew members! The Barnstormers would like to welcome Robert Mintz and Charlotte Evans to our production of Company as our Director and Music Director!
Having chosen our two directors, this past weekend we held auditions to find the cast for Company. You can see how excited our production team was to help people fill out their audition form and to hear them sing. The Director had everyone sing a portion of a song and read from various scenes he had selected from the script. Now that we have our directors, our production team, and our cast we can finally start the rehearsal process! Check back later this week to see photos from our first read through and first production team meeting. The search for a Director and Musical Director has begun!
You can see some of the Barnstormers' Executive Board members are hard at work discussing and preparing interview questions during a full weekend of Director and Musical Director interviews. On Sunday night, a Director and a Musical Director for Company will be chosen. Check back to follow the Barnstormers' production of Company with posts from cast, crew, and production members. |
