Picking a FOA
*please notes that the following are comments that were said, not necessarily comments that all Board members agreed upon, or sole reasons why a FOA was picked or not picked*
1. The Philadelphia by David Ives
  • Funny. Fun for Freshmen to be in.
  • Overdone. DBH did it last year. Always done in theater classes.
2. Catastrophe by Samuel Beckett
  • Submission obviously thought-out
  • 4 may be too big, only Luke can really be double cast
  • Would a Freshman be okay with not having any lines? It’s their first theater experience with Hopkins. Their parents might come, etc.
  • Director has other major time commitments.
3. The Red Coat by John Patrick Shanley
  • Very cute
  • A little sappy, Freshmen actors may not have the experience needed to make it not so sappy.
4. Beer Girl by Walter Wykes
  • Funny, good for college-age actors/audience
  • Beer can structure?
  • Beer can costume?
5. Fourteen by Alice Gerstenberg
  • Need 14 matching chairs? Also huge scene transition needed.
  • Need extensive costumes?
  • Very funny
6. A Matter of Husbands by Ferenc Molnar
  • Pretty funny
  • Costume issues.
  • Inexperienced director?
7. Fiddle and Faddle by Tom Gliatto
  • Lots of monologues that may get boring.
  • Very hard to read the copy of the script.
8. Cindy and Julie by Bruce Kane
  • Pretty funny
  • Freshmen would probably enjoy being in it
  • Possibly just cute, would all the jokes land or just be clever?
9. Surprise by Mark Harvey Levine
  • Funny
  • Fun for actors to be in
10.  Sorry by Timothy Mason
  • Run time listed on rights website is longer than cap
