General Assembly Meeting
The next GA meeting will tentatively be taking place sometime during the week of 4/5. The official date & time will be set at the next board meeting. Elections A tentative date has been set, and an informational email will be sent to the GA this week. Spring Event Timeline The timeline for the spring “open mic” show was reviewed. Musical Update The running of front of house for Company was discussed, along with the merchandise to be sold at the same time. Our upcoming News-Letter article was discussed. April Tabling Board members were scheduled to run our table at the 2nd week of the SOHOP Student Activities Expo, which is taking place Wednesday, 4/15, from 2:30-4:00pm. Board Dinner A tentative date was set for the end-of-the-year board murder-mystery dinner.

Musical Update
All of Act 1 & parts of Act 2 have been blocked Actors are doing character work this week The VP Pro gave an update on the terms of letting the outside business class table at one of our shows. Spring Show Update We have a space and AV capabilities for the event. VP Studio will send out a “feeler” email this week. April Tabling We will have tables at both the SOHOP Student Activies Expo (April 8th & 15th) and the Alumni Weekend Student Market (April 18th). Musical Update
We are still in search of musicians for the orchestra. The VP Pro & Publicity Manager will sit down to map out the publicity for the production. The VP Pro has been approached for a possible tabling at Company Technical Director Abby will be sitting down with the directors to discuss mics for the show. Spring Show Update A GA email will be sent out within the next few weeks. The VP Studio will need to come up with a timeline for the event by next week. “Board Bonding” We will be painting the Swirnow Theatre floor after rehearsal on Saturday, 3/7. Musical Update
The VP Studio wants cast & crew members to write & submit blogs about the show Production team meetings are held every Wednesday following rehearsal. A discussion of future actor character work was held. Easter Show The VP Pro & Publicity Manager are working on the show’s poster design. Spring Show Update The show will be held on April 17th in Charles Commons Salons A & B. Alumni Weekend Student Market The Barnstormers will be tabling Sat. 4/18/14 from 10 am to 2 pm in Levering Courtyard We are moving the Sunday matinee, which would fall on Easter, to the day There will now be two shows on Saturday, April 4th. Thank you to Eve, who volunteered for the table despite the short notice. Musical Update Casting took place the past weekend. A recap of the director decisions, as well as the reasoning behind them, was given. We will be blogging the show. The board looked at the proposed poster design, and brought up areas for improvement. Spring Show Update The show will be a potluck, open mic event. The GA will be able to sign up for 15 minute (or fewer) time slots, in which they can act or perform for the audience present. Ideas for acts include: A monologue or scene Juggling Magic Stand-up or Sketch comedy Spoken word Singing, etc. A timeline for the new show will need to be created in the near future. Ideas for the upcoming studio show were discussed. I-Show Update The wrap-up meeting was discussed. The VP Studio gave an overview of the show, listing both positives and negatives of the production’s workings. The most important takeaway: communication between the different aspects of the production must be improved. Spring Musical Update The schedule of director interviews was distributed to the board. The lists of questions to be asked each director & musical director candidate was distributed. Introductions of GA members & Board
Announcements The I-Show will be this weekend, at 8:00pm on Friday 1/30 and Saturday 1/31. Sweatshirts & water bottles will be for sale at the performances. Company auditions will be the weekend of February 13th. An email with more details will follow. Musical Selection The things we focused on in choosing Company were shared with the GA. These areas of focus include: Our limited budget The three criteria decided upon at the last GA meeting, which included: A flexible/unit set A contemporary or timeless musical An integrated cast At the board’s selection meeting, the GA’s opinion letters were read and each musical on the shortlist was discussed. We then ranked the shows by how well they fulfilled our criteria. Company came out on top. The GA had the chance to ask questions. The Technical Executive let the GA present know that he is looking for additional members of the production’s technical crew. I-Show Update
Tech week is going well so far. The possibility of the show timeline being moved up in the future was discussed. Spring Studio Show Update Show ideas will be brainstormed at the next meeting. Spring Musical Update Director Interviews Publicizing Auditions Interview criteria were discussed. The list of interview questions was distributed. Auditions will be held the weekend of February 13th. VP Pro will send out email to GA. Publicity Manager will post on social media. Upcoming GA Meeting Friday, January 30th, room TBA Our musical selection choice will be explained. GA members will be able to ask any question they might have. Barnstormers merchandise will be for sale. Merchandise Possible storage spaces for the merchandise boxes were discussed. Merchandise will be for sale at the I-Show on 1/30 and 1/31, as well. Show Pictures In the future, it is the intention to send photos of the productions to those involved. Budget Presentation
The group’s finances, and how they will affect the musical selection, were discussed. Opinion Letters All eight letters were read to the board for consideration. Show Discussion The three things we have decided on as a board & relayed to the GA: Simple/flexible set Timeless/contemporary show – not period Integrated cast with varying voice parts All six shows on the shortlist were discussed, with special consideration of these three criteria. Additional submissions have come in. Scheduling Selection Meetings The I-Show selection meeting will take place the 1st week of December. The Spring Musical selection meeting will take place during reading period. Google Tutorial An information session was given to refresh the board on the workings of the group Gmail, Drive, and Calendar. Notable Alum A Barnstormers alum, Jason Mauer, is up for a Broadwayworld.com award. A post will be made on the Facebook page, informing followers of this accomplishment, and encouraging them to vote for him if they wish. |
